COMPANY PROFILE

Germaican Records was founded in 1999 by Pionear, a German national from the East German city of Leipzig. Between 1989 to 1999 he was the mastermind and producer of the German Reggae Band Messer Banzani. His mentor Dean Fraser introduced him to the Kingston Reggae scene, and also to King Jammys who shortly after released Pionear's debut Riddim "Final Judgement" with German Artistes like Gentleman on the King Jammys label in 1998.

After living in Jamaica between 1998 and 2000, Pionear returned to Germany to establish the label. The first international approach "Bitch"/"*itch"(2000) produced at Steven Ventura's Celestial Studio featured Artistes like Elephant Man, Lady Saw, Degree, Hawkeye, Lukie-D and Kip Rich and was the best selling riddim of that year in Germany.

The international breakthrough came in 2002 with Tanya Stephens' "It's A Pity" on the Doctor's Darling riddim played by Seeed, Germany's top notch Reggae Band from Berlin. The song was Tanya's first Reggae recording after her stay in Sweden, and reached the No.1 spot in Trinidad, was 8 weeks No.1 on the Atlanta Reggae charts and reached the No.2 position in New York. The song was included on last years' "Reggae Gold" compilation by VP Records, the first german Reggae production ever, to achieve such honor.

In December 2003 the Jamaican division of Germaican Records was launched. First release was the Doctor's Darling riddim with tracks from Sizzla, Luciano, Capleton, Michael Rose and Turbulence from Jamaica and Dr. Ring-Ding and Seeed from Germany, feat. Anthony B with a remake of his hit "Waan Back". The Doctor's Darling One Riddim Compilation was released through VP Records in March 2004.

The Germaican Observer

Since the beginning it was the goal of the label not only to release music, but to represent the Jamaican music culture in it's original form, and so the Germaican crew also runs a website: www.germaica.net with a monthly webzine called "Germaican Observer" where visitors not only from Germany but also around the world can read interviews with Jamaican and German Artistes and listen to the latest mixtapes and riddims.
