Reggae Dancehall Eruption
17.12.1999, Alte Molkerei Hagen, Germany
The Line-up (Gentleman/Ganjan/D. Flame/Backyard Project/Koma
Mob) and the Sounds (Soundquake/Kingstone) were
very promising. The Location was awfull and the foremost reason
for the flop of the "Ultimate Final", as the show was advertised.
The Soundboy crews at their best, sometimes there was the
feeling that only some Hardcore fans from Cologne knew what
everything was about. The artistes had to get their drinks
themselves from the bar and the audience had to buy funny
papers at a place far away to walk back to change them for
drinks. To complete the confusion rumours were spread that
the club usually stages Techno-events and so, some people
were quiet surprised about the Dancehall Music...
About 0.30 a.m. chart entering deejay Gentleman and
Franfurts toughest D. Flame opened the live section
of the night alongside Soundquake. Then after the changeover
to Kingstone it was Koma Mob`s turn, but they
offered to much "Deutsche Härte" to keep the Reggae Vibe going...
The country boys from Salzgitter Backyard Crew showed
their enormous potential, but their set missed the communication
with the audience. By the way, Gentleman was the only
one this night who kept the crowd answering, about four times
he stirred up the almost sleeping patrons.
Later there was an Open Mic Session and now it was Ganjan´s
(the 2nd G. from Cologne) turn to rule the place with his
interpretation of Gershwin´s Summertime.
But it seemed that also the well versatile deejay forgot to
talk to the people.
There was a big surprise when german rappin deejay Der
Biber (D. Flame and Kingstone´s Lazy
Youth also showed native-tongue skills).entered the stage
and showed off what german dancehall will probably sound like
in the year 2000...
