“Theory of Reggaetivity” – the long awaited Reggae Album of ASSASSIN aka AGENT SASCO – is out now on GERMAICA DIGITAL. The album contains features with Chronixx and Australian singer Elesia Iimura. Featured producers on “Theory of Reggaetivity” are Ranch Entertainment, Silly Walks, Chimney Records, MLMG & Assassin, Protoje’s Diggy British & The Drum Keys, Soundcheq, Theo Butler and Niko Browne.

“Theory of Reggaetivity” is my musical study of the principles of Reggae music. What makes Reggae … Reggae? What are the birth marks, the unique, distinguishing characteristics of the music? I like the idea of a theory because it’s a supposition, therefore it leaves room for improvements and amendments. Like with all learning it does not propose that one knows all there is to know on the subject and leaves room for expansion,” says Assassin.

The album’s title, a play on words, makes a nod to Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. Setting the tone of the album, the title track and “Reggae Origin” examine the birth of Reggae beyond its pioneers. Assassin’s description is more scientific because he questions the possibilities of Reggae playing a role in the Big Bang and the vibration of weather patterns as the building blocks of the genre, which inherently are building blocks of life.

Given Reggae’s reputation of being by the people and for the people, he carries the tradition of a messenger by reaching people on a human level, incorporating more live instrumentation and harmonizing than he has done on any of his previous material. Assassin portrays the genre as a complex subject that is not just a medium of expression, but also a soundtrack of motivation (“J-O-B”), struggle (“No Slave feat. Chronixx), achievement (“Stronger”), love (“Crazy” feat. Elesia Iimura) and celebration (“Feel Highrie”). Assassin, who got his name by annihilating any competition with his lyrical wordplay, also stays true to his crafty lyricism – evident on the album’s first single “Mix Up”.

For more than a decade SOUTH RAKKAS CREW has been at the forefront of the fusion of worldwide sounds at the heart of the Global Bass movement. “Bang Bang Woo!” takes this fusion to the next level creating a blistering track that fuses the powers of NOLA Bounce, Moombahton and Dancehall into a concentrated beam of energy that will raise any party to the next level. It’s not that playtime is over, it’s that it just got a shot of nitrous on the highway to debauchery.

It’s a first taste of the “Marcy Who?” EP dropping in the next few months – a project centered around Jamaican vocalist MARCY CHIN. With SOUTH RAKKAS producer D-RAKKAS, new corners of Global Bass music are uncovered. Both artists bring their familiarity of diverse genres to create music that is at once uncategorizable yet unmistakably Jamaican.

The unique sound of their collaboration is due in no small part to how they came together. The project got underway without them initially meeting or even speaking with each other. The label GERMAICA DIGITAL approached D-RAKKAS to produce the project, telling him of the artist within the BADA BADA GANG – camp of Dancehall’s legendary group WARD 21. MARCY CHIN wanted something different. Not necessarily knowing what this meant, he started sending his beats through group member KUNLEY WARD (Kunley McCarthy) figuring most would be rejected. To his surprise, they started recording and sending stuff back. Without any communication they had found common ground. When they finally spoke on the phone it was a confirmation of a great creative partnership.

The fruits of this partnership will be available to all July 1st with the release of the “Bang Bang Woo!” single. Be on the lookout for a remix package, video and tour later this year.

MARCY CHIN – member of WARD 21’s BADA BADA GANG – this passed summer made a lasting impression on the European massive on Part II of WARD 21’s “Still Disturbed Tour” on festivals and clubs alike. Showing her talent and skills MARCY met DJ WICKED-A a young and promising Selector from Italy, who is – together with DJ MAD KID – the resident of Bologna’s renowned Dancehall & Reggae regular “Downton Bash”.

The idea of a joint mixtape was born, when MARCY CHIN was listening to a set of DJ WICKED-A before the “Still Disturbed” show in Catanzaro. WICKED-A’s class A juggling plus MARCY CHIN’s hardcore rhymes plus collaborations with the likes of TIMBERLEE and WARD 21 make “The Baddest MC” a very entertaining mix from the first to the last minute.

Unlike the usual compilation of already released 45s which are common for Dancehall albums, WARD 21’s “Still Disturbed” is well laid out and constructed. Respect to the forefathers of Dancehall is shown with relicks of the classic “Stalag”, “Heavenless” and “Far East” Riddims. Short Skits introduce to the different segments of the album. Brand new Gangsta tunes, Girls tunes and of course the obligatory WARD 21 weed anthem is not missing as well.

Productions mainly come from group members KUNLEY and SUKU with KING JAMMYS sons JAM 2 and BABY G contributing one production each. Features are few but exclusive: SEAN PAUL, KONSHENS and “Bada Bada Gang” members MARCY CHIN and DEWUNN.

“Still Disturbed” is a course in the history of the last 15 years of Dancehall, it’s the essence of Dancehall and nothing less than saving the integrity of the genre. WARD 21 might modernize and update their music, but “always keep the roots of the music alive so that  Dancehall can survive”.
